Footstone

Footstone from West Burial Ground, now known as Westlawn Cemetary. It is marked with initials “W.R.” for Willard Reed (1746 – 1814). He was the son of Willard and Abiel Butterfield, and married Olive Minot November 30, 1774 in Charlestown. According to Hodgman, he was a notable landlord in town. He operated a store off of what is now 24 Main St. At that location today is the Winnek House or John Abbot House (Abbot’s Folly), which was built around 1820 by John Abbot (1777-1854). Willard Reed also operated a tavern at the ca. 1730 Jacob Smith House that once stood at 132 Concord Rd.
